At the age of 4, Eunice Waymon was a child prodigy as a pianist and joined the Juilliard School of Music in New York.
She went on to study with Vladimir Sokoloff at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.
However, whilst playing the piano at a bar in Atalntic City she was told to sing and the legendary Nina Simone was born.
This film is the story of her life (narrated by the singer herself) and includes excerpts from performances of several of her well-known songs including 'Four Women Blues', which was banned in the US for being insulting to African Americans.
