Response to Alcohol Concerns, January 19, 2024
I'm anglo American and found Shou Wu Chih many years ago when living in Miami. 27 years actually and periodically use it still. I don't drink alcohol at all but it doesn't bother me. Yes, in part the alcohol is a preservative but more importantly it is a catalyst for the medicine to upload into your bloodstream and causes the liver to go to work in absorbing the nutrients. So, though I don't use alcohol for pleasure. The small amount in this is welcomed knowing it's use.

Pros: Works well
Cons: Stout taste

Surprise, but there is a fix, March 26, 2017
I bought this locally so I didn't see the warning. I took a shot of it and got quite a nasty surprise. I have hepatitis and can't drink alcohol and this thing is filled with alcohol. I then did some research and found this warning. I decided to fix it as I don't want to throw away the rest of the bottle. Alcohol can be evaporated. So I did a makeshift double boiler and simmered it for 3 hours. The end result is a great tasting tonic with very little alcohol which I couldn't detect. I then realized that alcohol is the preservative and you won't be able to find a version without the alcohol. It needs to be refrigerated after the removal of the alcohol. I will definitely continue to use this product with this hack method.

Pros: Tastes great after removing the alcohol
Cons: Needs some work
