The Gold South African Krugerrand Coins contain a total of one troy ounce of pure gold. The coins are struck on a yearly basis at the South African Mint and are available from House of Nubian in brilliant uncirculated condition.
First introduced in the late 1960's and being one of the oldest modern gold investment coins available, the Krugerrand has been among the most popular foreign gold coins for over 50 years.
The Gold South African Krugerrand Coin was given the name because Paul Kruger was once the president of the South African Republic, and the rand is the country's currency.
So it's no surprise that the front of the coin features the profile of Paul Kruger's face, along with both "Suid Afrika" and "South Africa" imprinted above the image.
The back of the coin shows the country's official animal: the springbok antelope. Above it is the word "Krugerrand" and below it is the phrase "Fyngoud 1 oz Fine Gold."
Next to the image of the antelope is the year the coin was minted.
